It's not the system
I know you get jollies by badmouthing Windows, but the problem isn't the system, it is the legion of idiot users of the system that run any damn thing that comes there way--including new Bagle worm variants inside PASSWORD-PROTECTED ZIP archives! And with so many moron users, of course malware authors are going to target Windows.

Does Linux have more of an impediment in place before code can be run? Of course. Would an idiot user just learn the few steps it takes to make something run on Linux, and then run it, just the same? Of course. In fact, malware emails would tell them, quite nicely, how to run the malware--instructions the idiots would happily comply with.

I would BET MY LIFE on this. If somehow, magically, all stupid Windows users (no, that is not all of them) converted to Linux, you'd see Linux malware skyrocket. And it would be effective, because an idiot is an idiot is an idiot.
