While I'm not going to say the infected computer user is blameless, it was after all the ISP that sent them the virus via their mail server. So who really is to blame here? There is no doubt that server side or gateway virus scanning can cause a performance hit, but any decent sysadmin with enough machines to warrant it will have this in the corporate environment. Why do computer literate ISPs wash their hands of their responsibility and then blame an average computer illiterate user for a virus infection? Now, if the ISP is doing their part and a user is still spewing viruses... Yes, pull the plug.
