WINE looked good to me
when I saw it as part of a Xandros setup. I have to admit that I
haven't played around with any of this in detail, but the Windows
apps opened quick and in the test stuff I did, it seemed OK. Best
part -- no OS to clutter the experience. I can't talk to printing
docs, but I can't imagine that this is NOT possible. To echo the
sentiments of others posting here, that would be plain useless.
Indeed. But -- this sort of technology would be super in the Mac
world. Apps like Project, for instance, are very useful to a limited
audience, and because of that, the cross-platform version was
dropped by Microsoft years ago because it wasn't selling
'trillions' of copies. Well, for those few that benefitted from it,
this would provide a super solution. Personally, I think the WINE
environment, albeit a tough nut to crack, would be very worth
the effort -- more so than the Boot Camp alternative or Parallels
which both, by the way, incur the added cost AND vulnerability
of a Windows OS to a greater or lesser degree. Just my 2? worth.
