Problem with IE and other Browsers
Well I am a fan of FireFox, due to a number of reasons. One is that FireFox seems to follow the W3C standards a bit better than IE in terms of web development. There are some variants from the standards that firefox will also perform, but one does not have to write workarounds on their web page in most cases for FireFox browsers. The problem with most browsers and FireFox is they want to enhance the standard or provide other functionality insted of following it. IE seems to be the worst at following standards and tends to want to implement their own standards upon all users with the focus on Microsoft Development tools and services like IIS.

There was a time when IBM tried this approach and a little known company named Microsoft turned the tide. So with all the problems of browsers capatibility, operating system changes, cost of these operating systems, cost of development tools, etc. Who will be the next Microsoft? And topple the Giant? If Microsoft keeps going down the road of WGA, delays in operating systems, determining their own standards, and anti-trust issues how long will it be when organizations will look at other options like Apachie, Linux, etc.

Discussion is always welcome, and I do not think the MicroSoft fans are evil. I myself tend toward Unix based systems and Open sourse products because it allows for greater flexibility and cross platform capitability. I also like the fact that these products can run on a number of different chipsets opposed to the Windows product line which is only x86 based. I also am a fan of scalability where most of the above products have been running under a 64 bit operating system for years and can address disk space and main memory in the Terabyte range where the 32 bit OS like Windows can only address shy of 4 Gb. This is not counting the Windows 64 bit versions which is still based on the x86 chipset as far as I can tell.

Anyway, I only dream of a browser which follows the W3C standards by default without imposing their own standards and thus have to develop workarounds for the public at large to view your pages correctly. So far I have found FireFox better at adharing to the W3C standards opposed to IE 6. I have not reviewed the IE 7 browser thus on this I say "TBD".

Cheers;

Lori
