updates and crashes
I have had only one minor problem with an external drive not
working after an update. That time it was the firmware of the
drive that needed updating also.

The way around crashes is it go to Apple.com and download the
combined update. It has the update data for all versions of
hardware and will install what is actually needed by your system.
The size is bigger, but if you have high-speed then it doesn't
really matter. The problems usually come from the updater not
getting the correct update files or leaving some important part
out.

I haven't had any problems so I have my updater set to check
daily and alert me if there is an update available to get.
