If only they really wanted some answers
There are plenty of ways ID theft could be reduced. There could be limited-use credit card numbers, and credit cards that cannot be used to ship purchased goods to third-party addresses. Credit card bills could use payment/invoice numbers instead of credit card numbers so consumers don't need to write a credit card number on their check. Try telling that to a credit card company. You will get a form letter from their attorneys telling you that they have the situation in hand, thank you very much. So, this coalition is forming an ID theft center, to "study" the problem. How many decades of "study", how many bankruptcies and victims will it take before they finish studying? Sorry, I'm not impressed.
