So simple to fix on your own
In W2K or XP Right click on My Computer>Manage>Service and Applications>Services right click on Messenger service properties use drop down menu on startup type to disable. While your there I would cut off TCP/IP over Netbios and Remote registry service as well as Computer browser. Unless for some senseless reason you need them enabled.
