Way to go Microsoft! You are doing for Linux what we need... pissing off your user base enough to get them to look at alternatives.

While I'm not sure how much it actually will change things, I have to admit that my first thoughts were much along this line too. I just suspect that most people only know of 1 alternative to Windows and when they see that it will cost them between $500-$1,500 to move to the Mac, those "pissed off" users will think "I'm not $1,500 worth of pissed off!" The question is, when it comes time for them to upgrade their hardware in the coming months/years, will they remember how pissed off they are today? When you think about the attention span of the average person, my guess is going to be "no".

While Linux has some big companies pushing it into the corporate world, I've yet to see a single mainstream advertisement in any publication not targetting people who already know about Linux. Where are the superbowl ads? Where are the signs in the computer stores pushing a Linux based home PC? For that matter, where are the salesmen pushing a Linux based home PC? I've said it before and I'll say it again: I know that marketing is an evil word in these talkbacks but you can't expect to take over a market without it.
