You mised an important detail...

These systems you are talking about represent an extreme minority on the net. They may be huge and powerful, with a very stable and reliable OS that is most likely designed especially for it. Where Windows has to support possibly thousands of hardware configurations and software configurations from multiple venders, a sacrifice is made for this flexibility: strength.

I?m sure MS could make an extremely secure environment, but then the only hardware you could use would be set to the spec with MS approved drivers only and the software would be limited to programs that MS wrote for that system specifically with no interchangeability.

If I were a virus writer or a hacker I don't think that I would spend my time on the small island that are these systems you speak of. I would go for the largest effect and that would be the far majority of machines on the internet, that just happen to be windows based, a continent compared to an island.

If Linux was the majority OS it would be riddled with holes as well, given time, by specialized attacks.

That?s all I had to rant about...
