The same happens here, why do you think distro's like redhat, debian and suse's packages are so stale? Its because in upgrading one package will affect the compile of another package like gettext has done with svgalib and perl has done with db and dont even get me started with the 2.6.headers.

One of the reasons linux has so many patches, dont belive me tear apart a few SRPM's and run:
# locate *.patch on it.
