BSD put a fork in it - never mind, already done.
[So if open source is more secure than windows, what part of Linux would not benefit?

All of it. The code is a hacked up clone, band-aided together. Not something I'd run my mission critical applications on.]

How very useful and descriptive. Thanks for the facts.

[Because we subscribe to security mailing lists.

You do, but not everyone does. I'd say very few do. So they have these vulnerable boxes until they remember to check software versions.]

There are not that many Linux vulnerabilities, and you can be sure that ZDNet (owned by Paul Allen) will trumpet all problems no matter how small - so if you can read this . . .

[Or get a commercially support distribution like SLES or RHEL and pay these companies to do this "tedious task" for you.

So you have to pay for someone to tell you when to update? One more disadvantage for linux. Windows offers this service for free and on a set schedule.]

You paid for Windoze, so that service is not free. If you pay DeadRat for Linux, they will give you a free service too.

[FreeBSD, really the BSD family, are very good OSes with an excellent security record. The work they've done with openssl in particular is of tremendous benefit to the entire open source
community.

Finally! I was starting to give up hope on thee.]

Not to mention the closed minded BSD community that boots people out for disagreeing with the powers-that-be. That's what forked BSD into three camps. Open source from exclusive communities isn't FOSS.

[FreeBSD being a good OS doesn't exclude Linux from also being one.

Sure it does]

suuurrre it does . . .
