True but linux (the kernel) is open source, and most code in
major linux distributions is also open source.

So if open source is more secure than windows, what part of
Linux would not benefit?

So your point is anything with a smaller market share is more
secure than windows.

Because we subscribe to security mailing lists.

Or get a commercially support distribution like SLES or RHEL and
pay these companies to do this "tedious task" for you.

Windows you know what day to expect patches and can plan
accordingly. Thats one advantage Windows has."

You bring servers down to install patches, how quaint.

FreeBSD, really the BSD family, are very good OSes with an
excellent security record. The work they've done with openssl in
particular is of tremendous benefit to the entire open source
community.

FreeBSD being a good OS doesn't exclude Linux from also being
one.
