Trend Micro: Open source is more secure
Trend Micro can't be serious by saying linux is more secure than Windows. No doubt open source is more secure, but open source != linux!!! Not to mention that Windows has an incredible amount of market share so that makes them more vulnerable to exploits since they are the bigger target and more people are using it.

Genes said open-source developers "openly talk about security," so patches are "immediate--as soon as something happens," whereas proprietary vendors with closed code have to rely purely on their own resources to push patches out.

This could be really bad drawback for open source, especially linux. How is the system administrator going to know when an update is available? Especially since they don't sit and read message boards 24/7. They will have to check each application's version with the developer's version. A very tedious task. Then bring the server down to install the patches. At least with Windows you know what day to expect patches and can plan accordingly. Thats one advantage Windows has.

However, Genes said that Linux servers need to be hardened to make them "really secure," and cannot be used without altering the default security settings.

I altered my linux box by installing FreeBSD instead. It's never worked better.
