Many places have closed circuit tv, which would give a face for the investigators, but keep in mind, regardless of whether there is CC there, they would have logs of connections (to cover their rears) and it would have your MAC address in there... And while some MACs can be changed, most for wireless nics cant. And the MAC would provide essentially a fingerprint.... AND the gov could mandate a MAC nab program so if a wanted mac address logs into a network, its location would be given to the police..

And spoofing the mac address would not be a realistic solution....

However, stealing other people's nics to commit crimes would become something to watch for (so you arent framed).
