So what about...
...the fact that this problem affects Firefox also? How does that involve Microsoft's 'legal strategy', or even ActiveX for that matter?

And if I'm not mistaken, Microsoft DID pay the fine imposed by the courts. What Microsoft didn't do is agree to pay on-going fees to Eolas for using the patent. As far as I know, there's no law requiring a company to use someone else's patent.

Besides, I thought all software patents were bad - wouldn't that include the one you refer to?
