Responsible Leadership rather than stronger data laws
The call for stronger data laws is an effort to distract the primary problem associated with poor leadership and management. Today, the bottomline deals with where does the "buck" stops at, rather than a lack of security. When you consider that this violation of security played out for three years, where was management during this time. So, an employee and a few managers gets fired, just another political ploy to shift the blame. It just amazes me that whenever a serious event that impacts millions of people, only the low-men on the totum pole takes the fall. I believe the incident reflects the lack of leadership all the way to the top. What improvements have they or are they planning to make in the area of policy and procedure, training and enforcement, and other inhouse corrections. To call for stronger data laws means nothing and their statement that everyone at the VA has our safety in mind is like a fart in the wind-it stinks, but just blows away without any significant results. Mr. Nicholson should resign - as a leader he has shown that he lacks genuine concern for the veteran and their families.
