The Midwest is not 50 people per mile
Hey DigitalKid, you need to get out a little.

The Midwest isn't all *that* remote. I think you're thinking of the Great Plains states or the American Southwest or even the Pacific Northwest. The Midwest is the states around the western great lakes and the upper Mississippi valley like Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. Yes, there's a lot of farms, but they tend to be smallish. Most of the area is decently populated and we from the NE USA would find them pretty familiar. You have to go farther west to get to the remote areas you're describing.

I'm from NJ, and when I first got to travel to Midwestern states I was amazed at how much they're like home. You should visit Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis or Madison, WI -- Even Duluth. I found all these cities to be really great, and not at all "one-horse". In between there were some farms, but the distances were manageable. I bet most of the Midwest is broadband already.

Remember the IBM ad showing the guy in the desert talking about how cheap they could build a data center there, since in the age of Internet your office could be anywhere? That was a really stupid ad, since it would be really expensive to bring a big data pipe there, not to mention employees.

Take a road trip and see the US. It's cool and eye-opening.
