Ka band problems
When satellite TV went from the big dish (C-Band) to the little dish (Ku-Band) we got rain fade. The equation between the refractive index of water and the Ku frequency transmitted from the satellite is what causes it. The higher the frequency, the higher the rain fade. Ka is higher still and may be disrupted by even heavy cloud cover. This is what is being investigated now. Maybe the reason for Wildblues bankrupcy. It seems a mathmatical certainty there will be more rain fade.
I have used Ku (StarBand) for three years now and know for certain it works well even in a light rain. StarBand was about a year ahead of Hughes entering the consumer high-speed two-way satellite internet market and still actively markets to residential customers as well as small office customers.
