I'm sorry, but the article doesn't claim this to be the FIRST or ONLY exploit of these security flaws. Therefore you can't conclude they were patched before the exploit was released. This same exploit could have been used in other attacks for months. Given the article doesn't really detail the security problem, nor the exploit itself, you really can't make any conclusions other then "the patch was out before Circuit City was hacked". Whether it was out before any exploits surfaced is not determinable from the content of this article.

but hey, I'll give M$ a hand - they seem to be making more of an effort lately. At least in terms of security.
