Then they attempted to install backdoor software onto the PCs of visitors who used a version of IE without Microsoft's January security patches installed

The patch was out before the exploit. Using Mac and Linux zealot logic, MS should be congratulated for getting the patch out before this exploit was released. This is actually a big win for Microsoft. Congratulations!! I'll expect all the ABMers to apply their own logic to this situation and congratulate MS too.
