- OK, and what about?

>If spammers paid for my internet connection in exchange for receiving their 'ads' then I might agree.
Advertisers don't pay for my DirecTV connection, my television, or my electric bill. So where's the difference? I suppose we could start a rally to force TV stations to send some type of code indicating a commercial coming on and require TV makers to create a chip to detect this code and blank the screen, change the channel, or put up a picture of puppies playing. As for telemarketers, The US created the Do-Not-Call list. However this is being challanged in our courts.
I'm not supporting or even defending spam or spammers. However I find it amusing and even frustrating, the similarities between "spam" and "advertising" and how one is ok with everyone and one is not. I get spam offering me "Male Enhancement"... Thas BAD .. I get a commercial on TV about "Bob is LIVING LARGE" (i.e. Male Enhancement) and thats perfectly ok. Whats the difference? The All Mighty Dollar.
I agree, there is a line to be drawn. Spam from porn sites and other "socially distasteful" locations are a problem. TV, radio, billboards and handbills, are regulated and its pretty difficult to hijack a TV station and put on your own commercial.
I just think that approach to dealing with spam is too broad and the officials that are trying to regulate the issue can't see the forrest for the trees. Like most things they do, they are knee jerk reactions to more complicated issue that create laws without teeth. What I mean is they create the law but have no provision, office or funding for dealing with it.
Oh and by the way. The courts decided to prevent people from suing the fast food industry for making their kids fat. The judge must have read my rant... hehehehe... - Posted by: moodytx Posted on: 03/11/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
