Addressing your suggestions
"Hey when a person buys a product should not the maker stand behind their product until it is no longer used by anyone?.I think Microsoft owes it to everyone who has a licenced copy of Windows to at least send them all the fixes on several DVD disks..."

If manufacturers were forced to support a product until there is no longer anyone using it, Ford would still be supporting the Model T - there is still a fairly large group of people who still own (and to some extent, use, although rarely for their original purpose) them. Realistically, it wouldn't be possible to continue to support the Model T. There isn't a large enough demand for parts and service, and Ford would go broke trying to continue to train mechanics and maintain the supply chain for so little return on investment. This is why all companies phase out support for older products, including Microsoft.

As to the second part of your quote, why should they go through the expense of shipping disks when everything is available online? With today's proliferation of computers, it's easy to find a working 'puter that can be used to download the needed updates and burn them to a disk.

In a perfect world, companies would comply with your suggestions, but this ain't no perfect world. wink
