Doing without symantec antivirus software
I have never had symantec antivirus installed on my home computer system, and I never have had a virus. Antivirus software just slows your system down too much. Follow these simple steps, and you will never get a virus:

(1) Dont open attachments that are executable such as with extensions .exe .pif .com, etc.
(2) Create a rule in outlook to immediately delete all emails unless the contact name is in your address book. This will prevent any emails from people that are not in your address book from ever reaching your inbox. It will also help prevent spam.
(3) Set your outlook to receive messages in plain text instead of html (web page). This will prevent any code from executing whatsover.
(4) Use caution with opening any attachment.

This is how I have survived without any antivirus software whatsoever.
