The point was, "SouthernPride" seems to think one can just come up with a better product and compete successfully with a monopoly. I agree with your response on that.
Also, it's not that I thought Microsoft wouldn't enter the av/security market, it's more that I think they shouldn't.
I would hazard a guess that most the the av tech that symantec, mcafee etc have come up with is patented up the wazoo and that as we type they are firing up the lawyers with patent and antitrust arguments in abundance. They're not as rich as microsoft but they're not as poor as corel/wordperfect etc and I think they have more will to fight it out.
Also, it's not as though Microsoft have been stunningly successful in there pursuit of securing windows either. What makes even them think that they will succeed any more than a third party av vendor? That they can tie it to the OS?
Well, let's see how their monoculture growing philosophy works out. My personal view on this is that the more software markets they enter the more likely the "world" will be made up of people who like (and succeed at) cracking windows. They are just setting themselves up of keepers of more and more possible points of failure. - Posted by: zkiwi Posted on: 05/30/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
