Maybe there is a solution ...
Develop reduced-functionality browsers and email clients that don't run scripts, that can't launch programs, that won't open files of unknown types, that restrict HTML usage or display only in text mode, etc. This would be brutal for a few people, but reduced-mode would be safe and probably would meet the needs of 90% of users who never wanted all that fancy stuff in the first place.
