Could the strike-back close the open ports?
The problem is that the infected machines from which DDoS are launched are owned by people who don't have enough computer saavy (if any at all) to know how to fix things, attacking them is of no good, because they wouldn't know their computer is under attack, but if the strike-back approach can shut all open ports in the originating computers, they will be closing the hackers' ability to manipulate previously infected machines.
Than it will make the internet a little bit safer.
