The first goal of power is to perpetuate itself. The prime use of the internet records will be to identify and pursue those perceived as enemies and critics of the administration.

If there wasn't a court order necessary, I'd be worried about that -- with any administration. However, this seems to be pursuant to a court order.

And apparently the ABC News monitoring is linked to the CIA leak case. (I would also point out that ABC News is not claiming they were bugged the way the administration admitted to bugging international calls. ABC says its call logs were monitored, not the actual phone calls.)

At any rate, any action can be abused. Slippery slope arguments are a logical fallacy, akin to saying, "If we let the government lower the speed limit to 55, soon it will be 15!"
