- What is the *need*?
-
Firstly I don't conterfit, pirate, etc. But if I did, here's some of my reasons.
The last Windows I bought was Windows 2000. It was a major advance from that bad joke, Windows 98se. Windows 2k was stable, and that's what I wanted.
I then used an OEM XP on a computer I bought from Dell, guess what? I ran into problems, and MS in their infinite stupidity said I had to buy *another* copy of XP because they said I was going to pirate their OS. I said forget it, and installed Windows 2000 on the repaired machine.
Now 2 years later, this old copy of Win2k is on my laptop, on 2 more computers, and it works fine. What about the security dangers? Unlike most, I keep good antivirus, I got all behind a hardware firewall, AND every one has a copy of ZoneAlarm. I use 3 different anti-spywares, including Windows Defender, and most of all, I do NOT use IE, unless it's to update the computers, and I never even attempt to use OE. I rarely have an attack, and the system runs just fine.
So I ask; what is the need of XP? If I was to pirate Windows, it'd be for Windows 2000 for it works, and I don't have to deal with MS's stupidty.
Now Vista is coming out. What can I do with Vista, I cannot do with Win2k? I can run all my programs on 2k, I can play music, videos, DVDs, CDs on my 2k machines. My newest system has 3g of memory, system purrs like a kitten. I can browse anywhere I want, I can write e-mails, articles, run an FTP daemon, talk to friends and family via skype, IM, and of course e-mails. I can edit movies, and photos.
Now tell me WHY I need Vista? Tell again, why Vista will be the greatest thing since sliced electrons? Tell me again why Vista will take away all of what I can do with Win2k with their DRM? Tell me why I need Vista to stop playing DVDs, archiving CDs and DVDs that I *legally bought and paid for*, Tell me why I need Vista to loose all rights to a computer I bought and paid for, an internet connecton I buy every month, just to please some 2 bit corporation like RIAA and the MPAA?
Yes, please tell me why I shouldn't conterfit, or priate Windows 2000?
The more you try to restrict people, the more they'll fight back. Be fair with us, and we'll be fair with you.
BTW When people stop writing software I need for at least Windows 2000 (like people are doing for Win95), I'll just migrate over to linux, and Apple. Both have software that's the same, but none so far, the rump kissing that MS's doing.
