Sender ID and/or SPF
I read a lot weird comments and proposals here but nothing really realistic. So may I remind few points:
- SMTP is unsafe by design, there is no effective fix to this and SMTP must be changed to prevent spams. Some technology already exist, but are not yet implemented for commercial and cost reasons. Search for "Sender ID", sponsored by Microsoft with some licence issues or the "SPF" technology.
- Anti-Spam systems are effective and blocks 99% of the spam with few fake positives.
- Regulation has a real impact on spam, some well know spamers have to shut down their operations and some serve jail terms. But at the end nothing can prevent Spamers (or any other gangsters) to break the law. Mostly all are well organized criminals linked to other types of criminality.
- People have the right to read spam and to buy spamed stuff if they like it, when the product is legal of course.
