Can you say application software?
The main reason that most people use MS software is the availability of application software. If you go to CompUSA or any other generic computer store, you will see loads of shelves bearing applications for the Windows platform, covering everything from CAD applications to games. In the same store, Mac software takes up a fraction of the space.

Does this mean there is no good software available for the Mac? Of course not. User perception, however, is that there are fewer options available.

The problem is a real chicken and egg scenario. If you want to sell more Macs, you need more software available. If you want to have more software available, you need to sell more Macs.

I believe that Mac will never grab a solid foothold in the marketplace as long as:
1. It is a more expensive platform than Windows based platforms, and
2. It is incapable of running Windows applications.

Remember, we are dealing with user perceptions here, so don't tell me about TCO. Most users, both corporate and home, are clueless as to the meaning of the term.
