The first account on a multiuser system (in this case, meaning that it has multiple user accounts, no t concurrent users) is typically the administrative account. On IPSO, it is called admin (IPSO is a FreeBSD derived OS used in Nokia firewall devices, uses Checkpoint for the firewall software). On most Unix based systems, it is called root (ex. Linux, BSD, Solaris, AIX, IRIX, ...). On Windows 2000 and 2003, it is called Administrator.

On Windows XP, for some reason, Microsoft did away with the administrative account being labled something intelligable and allows the user to specify the name. Often, the user sets up this account and isn't advise setting up seperate user accounts. Also, some software just doesn't work correctly under non-administrative mode (not sure why, perhaps a bug in the applications code).
