I agree with billlywill...
I have been using Norton/Symantec products since the early 80's but with AV subscriptions on 2 more machines running out this month I will complete my "de-Symantec-ing" for ever and ever on all our computers many which run 24 hours a day.

I'm been using CA Ez-AV and it does it's job quietly and efficiently. That along with ZoneAlarm Pro does the job for me. Used to use a pop-up blocker but with it built in IE and with the ZA blocker I quit using another 3rd party one about 6 months ago.

Actualy, I've never had a virus, trojan, or any of the other baddies with Windows (Norton has stopped a few though) but I've never opened email attachments that I didn't know the sender and an explanation of what it is and what for, don't download illegal software, music, or video and use common sense some Web sites.

How many semi-intelligent people do you know who have gotten some baddie from the Web? I know zero who use any brand of firewall and AV software. It is the kids on warez sites and P2P who are spreading this stuff to the adult idiots who don't use firewalls and updated AV programs and who open any email attachment and click on any link on questionable Web pages that they probably shouldn't be visting anyway.

As far as MS adding a good firewall and AV program to Vista, I'm all for it. Of all people they should know how to do it best with the least amount of resources but I'll give it 6 months to a year after release before I would trust it completely.

As someone else has mentioned it should have been in Windows from the beginning. A safe secure OS right out of the box should be the rule not the exception requiring dependence on 3rd party companies along with the added expense. I'm willing to pay extra for those capabilities built into the OS since it cost a lot more for 3rd party software or the downtime and loss of data if infected.
