What he should be worried about...
What he should be worried about is making antivirus and security software that isn't a slow, bug-riddled resource hog.

What he's scared of is a company that will come along and offer an easy-to-use solution with a compact memory footprint that doesn't require reinstalling and/or clearing folders of corrupted signature files. John wouldn't have to worry if their product was superior, but Norton products have been on downward spiral towards total garbage since at least 2002.

Symantec have no one to blame but themselves if Microsoft or some other company comes in a takes a large chunk of their marketshare.
