- I Have Had My Account Attacked Twice
-
Here is how it worked for me. It started on a Friday before a three day weekend and I discovered it in my pending file before it was paid. I went to the bank on Tuesday morning, the next business day, and before the item was paid. The bank paid it and many others after, even though I notified them each time an illicit charge appeared in the pending file. None was really big and all for software if I remember correctly. Many $1 and $2 charges. I was told that was the way they checked to see if it was an open account. Total of all amounted to about $2500. The bank finally issued me a new card and deducted all the illicit charges and overdraws from my account after one of the online merchants questioned the legitimacy of several orders they received using my account.
A year or so later I found another illicit charge on my account. Again, I went to the bank the next day and they checked out the charge immediately. The young lady at the bank told me they didn't use the correct state abbreviation, the phone number did not exist and the street address was a vacant lot. They immediately closed that account and issued a new card.
I don't know if this qualifies as identity theft but it was annoying to keep seeing new charges on the account and notifing the bank for each one. My advice, check your account frequently, at least two or three times a week. I don't know about all the security but I don't think they can beat your vigilance. Good luck to all of you.~~~Hal - Posted by: hal3650@... Posted on: 05/18/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
