Social Security Numbers
Social security numbers were not intended to be used for identification purposes, yet everywhere we go we are asked/required to provide it.

It isn't just colleges and universities but hospitals, doctors' offices, public libraries, tax assessors, et al.

The abuse of the Social Security number has to stop; the question is how to provide a universally accepted means of identification that will be secure from outside intrusion.

In my field, I know what can be done with a Social Security number and a date of birth, and it is truly frightening.
