Common Sense
Mac users don't worry about viruses or spend more than a
miniscule amount of time in virus prevention. You can usually
find us working or writing stupid things like this when we are on
our computers. It's not invincability or pride. As for the way
things are currently, Anti-virus software available for the Mac is
in fact more damaging to our computers and our workdays than
viruses are. This may change someday but OSX is inherently
more secure than Windows, but if the day comes when a lot of
malware exists for the Mac we will deal with it then. Since no
OSX user has ever gotten a real virus, then unnecessary
measures are not needed at this time. I don't blame Mcaffeee for
saying this since they are selling anti-virus software, but they
are spreading FUD which keeps people who are thinking of
changing from changing. MacAffee makes a lot more money on
Windows than Macs any day so for them to spread FUD makes
some sense. For Apple to gloat about no viruses also makes a
lot of sense, and is currently true. Currently I use Little Snitch
which monitors and stops any communication leaving my Mac
since I'm more worried about adware and spyware than viruses.
If my Mac starts getting chatty with someone in China, Africa or
Rome or somewhere, I start looking for antivirus software. So far
the most chatty software on I've seen are Acrobat and Stuffit.
