Um, if you are part of a local network, then you want networking turned on. If you aren't part of a local network, it doesn't matter if networking is turned on.

Either way, the firewall is on by default so even if you are part of a local network and networking is turned on, by default, you are 100% protected from the local network attack vector.

Care to try again with your anti-MS FUD?
