A common phenomenon, excuses......
.... when criticism and high demands should be the standard.

"You are one to call me Misguided. From your post, you
obviously have no clue as to how Windows or UNIX works."

I'm a software engineer and have also supported companies and
everybody else more than 15 years, cleaned up more PCs than I
can count (unsuccessfully many times), been programming in 25
years here somewhere in Sweden.

"Windows has a perfectly sound security model, that
unfortunately is underused. You don't have to log on as an
administrator in Windows."

Underused, Why?
Will applications work as expected when logged in as a limited
user? No. So how many Windows users are logged in as admins?
95%? 99%? 100%? See the problem?

"ActiveX controls can only be installed by administrators. There
is a reason for that which you have already touched on."

And nearly everybody on Windows are admins most of the time.

"Windows XP's unfortunate default of making users
administrators was done in the name of backward compatability
- not out of Microsoft's misunderstanding of security, and this
default setting is not the cause of the security problems
Windows users face."

Because they did a crappy job from the beginning.
A more enlightened MS customer should have demanded much
more from the beginning and have bought something else when
they should have realized that the Microsoft alternative was no
good.

"Your focus on root-level permisions exposes your superficial
understanding of how modern operating systems work. Malware
writers don't need root to infect a OSX, or a windows, or linux or
*BSD."

Why? You will not bring down my computer just by modifying or
deleting my documents or multimedia files, you have to reach
the system files for that like in the constantly perforated XP.

"If had even a modicum of understand about how OS's worked,
you would know this...but you don't."

It has been my profession for so many years.
