That is correct
but it appears to me that all these tasks are too hard or involved for all the common home users. They will have to hire sysadmins to do this for them.... wink

PC computing started by emphasizing the freedom from centralized processig/data centers and the EASE with which indiviuals carry out their PC tasks...

Now PC computing (with MS windworms) has become a daily nightmare, especially for the home users.

The problem is that even if home users have the expertise and the willingness to be good PC citizens, I doubt they will have the time to CONSTANTLY dedicate to these tasks. Plus, downloading multi-MB patches will run the phone bills up to intollerable amounts for the common users.

The constant update of the AV s/w and repatch and reboot and clean up over and over will just make people give up.

Ofcourse I agree with all the steps you mention. But unfortunately even 'professional' shops do not keep them, let alone home or clueless users....
