No.. thank you, but I'm not stupid.
What forced me to reformat and reinstall was the patch that I downloaded from MS using their automatic updated.

As I said, this computer is not used for anything but gaming, so its highly unlikely that I've picked up a virus that my AV software didn't catch. I don't run internet explorer on it, and I am behind a firewall. I've never once gotten a virus or anything else bad on here that I didn't directly cause (IE. going to porn sites...).

I've asked around to a few of my other friends, and most of them have had problems with the patch as well. This wasn't just an isolated case, and I do know of one computer that was behind a corporate firewall, with a great IT team for this company watching these computers, and they had a similar problem.

I don't know what about the patch my computer didn't like. All I know is it would get me to the file checking screen, say that I had corrupted files (which again, I didn't before I did the patch, so that should tell you something there), it would attempt to truncate them, and then the computer would freeze. I will admit I don't know everything about these patches and what they do on the OS coding level, but that does make me believe that the patches were the direct cause of me having to format and reinstall.
