No, it's subsidizing you...
The government is providing you value for your tax dollar, instead of just taking the dollar. Government agencies, and government-funded institutions like public universities, are where open source began. It came from the recognition that they could save *alot* of money by sharing instead of reinventing the wheel from one agency to the next. And also the recognition that since taxpayers funded the agencies and public universities, the public should have access to the code as well, and be able to use it and build on top of it. You actually get something back from your tax dollars in this case!

And it is in the interests of free enterprise - anyone has equal footing: we can all use the same open source components and have those as a base to build on top of. Those who choose not to, and instead rebuild from scratch, well...that's their business decision. As long as it's available to everyone, noone can complain that it's not equal footing, and there is no impediment to free enterprise. The value is what solution you can create on top of these infrastructural components.

Unless you can validly argue to the contrary, rather than just spewing general statements without some reasoning behind them.

So...tell us *why* you think this is not in the interests of free enterprise, rather than just saying so. Give us some valid supporting arguments. Otherwise, dispense with the canned statements!
