No. The most effective way to protect yourself is...
Install a nice Linux into free space on your drive, and copy all of those threatened files from NTFS into a safe and well-documented ext3 (or other Linux-type) Partition. If your drive is near full, spend $50 and put in another one.

This time it's labeled as "some Russian criminals". But next time, when your data's been converted into WinFS (maybe without even asking you for permission), it'll be "Uncle Fester"^h^h^h^h^h Ballmer, and he'll have you by the short hairs. If the software to read and write your files isn't under your control, who really owns your files?

There's really no difference... when Windoze crooks are in charge of "your" data, it's really theirs.
