Without adding too much additional traffic, provided it's remotely feasible or not already part of security software available.
The old call-back method of security used in the old days of modems....when someone needed on your system they would dial in and annouce themselves, then the system would call them back to make the connection.
I wonder if that would be workable somehow with ip? It should thwart ip spoofing as well if done the way i envision it. I'm a coder and not a network/systems guy, so if this is ridiculous...that's my excuse.
