Primitive FUD.
Other software already present on the computer can stop driveby installs. So why is this new product needed?

Here's the explanation given:
"While SocketShield may look a lot like standard intrusion prevention software, it is not, Thompson said. Instead, it is task-focused security software, he said.

[In other words, his product does only one thing.]

'Intrusion prevention software tries to be all things to all people and detect things generically so you don't have to patch," he said. "I reckon that is wrong-headed.'"

Yes, making the assumption that it is unnecessary to patch because one has protective software is "wrong-headed". But what does that have to do with the efficacy of his product compared to other products which do the same thing?

This does not appear to be a reason to doubt Avast! or any other (free) software one is already using to prevent such installs.
