Re: phone home?
What do you mean? Has MS admitted to having the OS contact MS w/o user's knowledge? When and why? Did it go against their privacy policy?

Well I have noticed that every once in a while the XP computers here in my home query Microsoft's DNS servers even though I have set it to query my own caching server exclusively. I've also seen this documented elsewhere.

Windows has a privacy policy? I guess I'll have to watch those PCs more closely to ensure my privacy isn't invaded.

I wonder what kind of data Google and Apple and Linux Distos and many others are ripping off from users. I've never read their privacy policies....i guess I should!!!

Don't know about Google and Apple, but Linux distros don't have privacy policies. I guess you could say that if your Linux kit was to to phone home you'd know it when you hear the ring.

It never ocurred to me in this way before, but with all the posts in here about Windows phoning home, it seems that Windows would like to be your guest but not part of your family. Another reason to like Linux.
