The problem is...
how do you get back up off the floor now.
Do you do ANYthing the King asks. I would guess so.
I'm repeating but on patches. I work for an organization whose main IS vendor is in the top 3 in the world, in terms of size/clients, in a very large and complex market. Whatever I code, just like any system I've coded on, or any system anyone had coded on, when a patch or update is coming out, you have to make sure it's not going to break your custom. The company has had to issue as many as a dozen patches for the same issue. And over the years I've seen this even with the smaller vendors. But when your client load is in the millions, such as Microsoft...their Large company clients number in the millions....any patch, update, service pack etc. needs to be worked out with those major vendors before release. It's a major undertaking each and everytime and there is nothing abnormal, lacking in expertise or any other mud you want to fling at this. Anyone that has truely worked in IT at a developer level or close to the code, knows this is expected let alone normal. For any Vendor whose system becomes highly integrated and unified across many apps and more custom than the rest of the world put together....the patching is very complex stuff. But it's worth it and that is why people don't jump ship due to it. They know all software has monthly patch cycles. All versions of Unix we used did. There were more patches on the monthly unix cycle than Windows Sever as a matter of fact.
But I'm not sure if this is just supposed to be "fun and games" with Microsoft, or the people here making light of this situation are serious. I hope it's not the latter...since it proves what is really going on and that's just wrong.
