Yes, Dorothy, bigger IS better, even if it's a tornado.

-actually, I do realize the complexity, as I've witnessed it successfully performed-since discovering I had a choice- by programmers who care more about their work than they do about MARKETING. In fact, they even make it work with MS programs (something about having the convenience of the USER in mind occurs right about here, no?)

My brain is quite active on this subject--I run both OSs, and used MS Windows exclusively for almost 3 years. I think the difference between you and me is that I was never quite impressed by their gargantuan success because I was too busy trying to shut down all the holes in XP--it occupied quite a bit of my time. I've spent HOURS on the phone with ITs who finally shrug their shoulders (poor things, they have to keep their jobs)because they have no answer. This isn't idle carping-it's real experience(and there are probably countless others who can say the same). I didn't have the luxury of sitting back and letting Redmond run my system for me--THEY threw me to the wolves--so I had to learn a whole lot in a very little time,-once I decided I didn't HAVE TO use MS.

This statement says it all--ie. "WHATEVER is allowed in full contact Capitalism is okay with me"
How about ignoring a hole in IE for 6 months (one of the patches in this latest bunch deals with it I think)one discovered by a college student who alerted MS and they passively and smugly assured everyone it didn't exist? How would that fly in the rest of capitalist land--say, a maker of brake lines for cars? When someone claims to be the best, they damn well better BE the best--if they claim to have MY interests at heart, they better not let me catch them at every turn doing just the opposite. We're not talking about play-time here-this is about safety, security, privacy, freedom; all those "little" things that the MARKETERS in Washington DC claim to have our best interests at heart. Bottom Line: This is bigger than you, me, or yes, even Microsoft. Even someone whose brain has "shut down" can recognize that. THAT's why it's such a "big deal"; and the "POPULAR" success of MICROSOFT IS SYMPTOMATIC OF HOW BIG THE BLINDERS ARE THAT MANY OF US WEAR--TO OUR GREAT DETRIMENT.
