First of all..
Please tell me what constitutes a misspelling vs. a typo. Because I would think an extra letter in a word is a classic misspelling where a typo would be the wrong letter or a dropped letter typed in haste.
I don't even use a grammar or spell checker in Outlook let alone here. I see no sense. Mostly we type in all small case and convey our meaning as quickly as possible. Grammar and spelling awards are not handed out here. If we are corresponding with a vendor or client, then of course we do. But in an informal situation, who cares?
You didn't address one thing I said. I was saying the issues are not always the OS but the various code that is running on the OS. If you have a system that has been in place for a long time, you need to consider all the various configurations and user defined functionality...something a flexible and productive OS gives you, so then when an vulnerability is found you need to make sure ALL of your customers will be ok and that is very, very complex work. There is not another company that has had to deal with that, so your benchmarking of their performance is nothing more than opinion. No other OS has been so widely used in the mainstream, nor as configurable ( a good thing for the end users!) as Windows. To say it's not well coded is just opinion and not based on any comparitive measures. It's when apps are built to run on your OS and programmers get lazy that you run into problems. Linux, in it's very limited use on the desktop, has had to contend with boatloads of vulnerabilities already via the code running on top of it. Firefox extensions or add-ins for example. There have been many of them flawed as can be. The major flaw in PHP.....i could go on but linux doesn't have enough of a foothold OR history on the desktop, where you HAVE to provide functionality, unlike the passive devices linux drives on the internet, and when that day comes and they get the marketshare of Windows I guarantee you the SAME thing will happen. There will be apps breaking all the time. It's the nature of ALL software. The OS maker can't guarantee all 3rd parties will write tight code or the OS would not be programmable. Don't you understand that? I would think if you thought about the partnerships and vast amount of ties and configs out there in a world where Windows OS dominate very heavily, you have to see where their is room for problems and fixing OS level code becomes a nightmare. Linux, in it's comparitively brief lifetime (although it's been in the making for 30 years ) has already had many of these same things happen. But the linux camp quickly points to other vendors or whatever....but they don't realize it's because Linux allowed the functionality that now a patch needs issues. And over time they will find it more and more and more. You have to see that...partnerships will form, variations will be created, configs will be different from one major corporation to the next....then people will be whining about linux as the next great thing is trying to gain traction.
But Windows will always be in play. The offerings they have for server and operations mgmt, the evolution of .NET etc are going to be attractive to many for decades to come. Oh, yeah, many people like one unified solution is another reason MS is so big. There are hundreds if not thousands of huge companies that have standardized on Windows, by choice, because of the ecomomies of scale it offers. That is plain and simple fact.
Nothing is perfect so I'm not sure why you are so enthusiastic in your quest to let everyone know of Microsoft's shortcomings? I'm sensing some canned reply like, "i never said perfect, but something that resembles decent would do" or something along those lines. Again, try to remember that history has only recorded this once so far and you count begin to count the complexities in the configurations among millions and millions of users, companies, organizations etc etc.
