Wrong Pal...Understand what happened here.
If you are reading the story with an open perspective, and not just saying; "how does this corroborate my nasty feelings about Microsoft", you can see that Microsoft was forced into creating a patch for something that didn?t require a patch?

?The problems arise because of changes Microsoft made to how the Web browser handles Web programs called ActiveX controls. The modifications are designed to shield Microsoft from liability in a high-profile patent dispute with Eolas Technologies and the University of California.?

End result is a patch was created that had to disable a function in one way yet still had to leave it functional in the long run. Not an easy task, and a rather ridiculous task to have to indulge in. SO honestly, just this one time, set your hate for Microsoft aside for a few minutes and realize the culprit here is Eolas Technologies and the University of California not Microsoft. The problem lies within the U.S. patents system which has come to be something akin to a high speed freight train that came off the tracks and is slowly but surly taking out the very businesses in its path it was supposed to be delivering the goods to.

Trust me, if this debacle keeps up not only is every significant piece of software going to end up coming under a patent attack, the guy who lives next door to you is going to come up with a new way of breathing, get the patent and then have the ?patent police? make sure your not infringing on HIS idea so he can see if heneeds to have you added to his lawsuit.
