Typical response...
This kind of response is typical from way too many software vendors. Oracle, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems are probably the three biggest offenders. It is their policy that customers are not entitled to any information regarding bugs in their software. The veil of secrecy runs deep in these companies. Simply publishing benchmark results of their software will likely result in a lawsuit if the company hasn't given express written consent. Between this level of secrecy and all-encompassing EULAs that shield companies from any and all liablility for damages caused by their software, it's no wonder the open source model is thriving. The more technically savvy the market becomes, the less this kind of behavior will be tolerated.
